To Encourage You

Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

So, is there life “out there?”  How many times have you heard this question asked, or perhaps you’ve asked it yourself?  Certainly, many scientists are asking, and they’ve gone to great lengths to get an answer.  One such effort is the so-called Breakthrough Listen project, which consists of the giant Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, which is designed to “listen” for radio waves that might be coming from a galaxy “far, far away.”  Andrew Siemion, the director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center, says that it is those types of signals that are among the main emissions the team expects from extraterrestrial civilizations (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/09/radio-bursts-galaxy-space-breakthrough-listen-science/).  Of course, how to interpret such signals and determine if they are indeed coming from some intelligence “out there” is another question in itself. 

In light of such things, isn’t it interesting that God has shouted to us from “out there” in a language everyone can understand, but so many of us just aren’t listening. In the words of King David, written over 3,000 years ago, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.  Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.  There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.  Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4).  And beyond that, Hebrews 1 tells us that God has been speaking to us by the prophets and then by His own Son in plain language that we can all understand, for many, many years.  These words are available to us all in black and white on the pages of Scripture. They shout to us that the God who dwells “out there” indeed exists, and he has spoken to us. In every way possible He has shouted to us “I AM.”  Yet, because the heart of man is so darkened, his response has been to close his ears and hide his eyes from the Author of Life, the Creator of everything that is. 

God has told us about a place called “the Third Heaven” and of actual living beings that dwell there, and that pass from there to here, called angels.  It’s a place from which God sent his Son to be clothed in human flesh, so we could know beyond all doubt that He knows us, and to also realize that we can know Him.  Still, men in their sin have rejected THESE messages, and have opted to look for little green men, to whom, if they ever find them, they hope and pray not to be accountable.  

So, have you been wondering if there is life “out there?”  News flash: there most definitely is life out there, and He is the source of both your life and mine and the life of anything or anyone else that has ever lived.
