Breaking the status quo

Acts 19:28-34 “When they (the Ephesians) heard this they were enraged and were crying out, ‘Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!’  So the city was filled with the confusion, and they rushed together into the theater, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians who were Paul’s companions in travel. . .   for about two hours they all cried out with one voice, ‘Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!’”

Some things are good to stay “as they have always been.”  But when it comes to sinful lifestyles and ungodly ignorance, the Lord seeks always to “break the status quo.”  Who knows how long the city of Ephesus had practiced idol worship when Paul and his companions entered town.  The silversmiths made great wealth building and selling idols of Artemis.  Then along came Paul and spoke the truth about the sin of this city and the people came unglued; however, some believed and became the Church at Ephesus to the glory of God.

Satan loves sinful ignorance to continue just the way it has always been.  God wants his people to be agents of change, speaking truth to error, as we spread the glorious message of the gospel.  Everyone, who does this can expect to suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12).  Yet God loves the world too much to allow it to stay just the way it is.  They killed his Son, as the greatest example of hate turned against love.

Let us be willing to be “God’s pests” spreading his glorious truth to a sinful and Satan-deceived and controlled world. May God help us to be His agents to break the status quo when the status quo needs to be broken.
