John 17:1-2 ““Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.”
Do you realize that Jesus has claimed that there is only one person who has the authority to determine your eternal destiny? Jesus affirms in John 17 that he alone has been given authority to give anyone eternal life – or not. Others have claimed this authority, but, if Jesus is telling the truth, they are all nothing more than liars and usurpers. The teachers that brought Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, Islam, pantheism, Mormonism, and every other “ism” or religion, promise some path to eternal life. Their teachings claim to be authoritative about this most important issue. Entire belief systems are built upon the fundamental teachings of these “authorities.” Let us not be duped. Either Jesus, indeed, has authority over all flesh, or one of these other systems and the human beings that devised these systems have authority over some or all flesh. Jesus’ claims were radical and exclusive. He said that there was no other way unto the Father (Whom He calls in John 17:3 “the only true God”) except through him (John 14:6). This is His authoritative claim. Do you believe this One, who proved His deity and authority over death by rising from it, or do you believe one or more of these others, who are all liars and imposters, if Jesus is telling us the truth?
