The burning heart

John 15:15 “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

Col 2:1-3 “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Followers of Christ know things that those that don’t follow Him cannot know.  Jesus revealed all that he had heard from His Father to His apostles. These are all the things He intended for them to pass on to us who would believe in Him in the future.  These things are contained in the Scriptures and nowhere else.    It was also Christ that was communicated to the Old Testament prophets and it was from these writings that Jesus opened the eyes of the disciples on the road to Emmaus to all the things that had been written about Him there (Luke 24:13 ff).  The Scriptures call these wonderful truths many things, and among them “the secrets of the kingdom of heaven” in Matthew 13:11, and “treasures of wisdom and knowledge” in Colossians 2 above.  As we read these truths and are then taught their meaning by the Holy Spirit in various ways, our hearts will “burn within us” as they did for the disciples to whom Jesus spoke in Luke 24.

Are your hearts burning with God’s truth as you read His Word?
