The greatest love

John 15:9 – “As the Father has loved me so I have loved you. Abide in my love.”

Have you ever thought about how much the Father must love Jesus? What a wonderful Son he is. Perfectly obedient. Always spending time with the Father – always about the Father’s business. Often in prayer, pouring out his heart. Perfectly trustworthy, and perfectly able and obedient to complete the greatest and most difficult mission God ever had for anyone – to give His own life on the cross to save the lost.

Jesus’ thoughts are always on the Father, and the Father’s thoughts are always on Him, this One with Whom, above all others, He was so very well pleased. What an incredible love this is. And yet – incredibly – it’s with that very same love that Jesus has clearly stated that he loves us – who are so often disobedient, so often untrustworthy, and so often with our thoughts anywhere but on Him. We are so unworthy of this great, great love. How awesome is His love for us! How grateful we should be! And how motivated should we be to love our Savior with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, for isn’t that the very nature of His love for you and me?
