Revelation 1:8 “’I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’”
It is a wonderful truth that the God Whom we serve is the God of the past, the present, and the future. All that He is and all that He does has these eternal elements, for He is eternal. He is a God Who has been merciful to us in the past, Who is merciful in the present (for His mercies “are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23)), and He will be merciful in the future for all eternity. In the book of Hebrews, we are told about how Jesus “has appeared” for us in the past (Hebrews 9:26), and we celebrate that appearance every Christmas. But He is also One Who is appearing for us right now in the presence of God, interceding for us as our great High Priest (Hebrews 9:24). And then He is One Who “will appear a second time (here on earth), not to deal with sin (which He did by dying on the cross) but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him” (Hebrews 9:28). He is a God Who has met our every need in the past, is sustaining us by meeting our needs right now, and Who has promised to meet our every need in the future “according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
May God help us to be those who continually thank Him as we look back to how He has blessed our lives in the past. May be praise Him for the many ways He is working in our lives right now, and may we exalt His name for the incredible promises He has made to us about the future, a future where He will be, just as certainly as He has been in our past and is now in our present. Praise be to the One Who alone was, and is and is to come. What a great and eternal God we serve!
