John 1:1-5, 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 4:10 “Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, “Give me a drink,” you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
On this wonderful new day, do you know the gift of God? Do you know this greatest gift that has ever been given and that came at the cost of the very life of the One Who owns everything, made everything, and sustains everything that lives? As we enjoy time with our families at such times as Christmas and give each other gifts bought with the wealth God has given us the ability to acquire (Deuteronomy 8:18), are we grateful to the God Who has blessed us and has told us that “everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil (for) this is God’s gift to man” (Ecclesiastes 3:13)?
But beyond this common grace that has been given to every person whether they know or acknowledge the greatest Gift-Giver or not, God has given His very life to us in the person of Jesus Christ. This great and awesome God has offered us all the greatest gift, i.e., the living water that only He can give. This gift of God is the Son of God, Who revealed Himself to the woman at the well with the words above from John 4. He, likewise, wants to reveal Himself to every one of us if we will just say “Yes” to the gift of living water that He offers.
This day could be the most wonderful day you’ve ever known if you would but receive the gift of eternal life that the Word Who became flesh is offering you. But to receive it you must acknowledge your sin, confess it to God, and say “Yes” to Him, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). If you’ve never received this gift, will you receive it now? It’s free to you for the asking at this very moment if you would receive it from the One Who has given His life on the cross for you.
