All Sufficient Grace for Even Me!

2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you.”

How wonderful it is when we realize that the Scriptures are to be applied to each one of us personally. While the Scriptures were written by men who experienced God in a very personal way at the time they were written many years ago, they are also to be applied to you and me, for it is truly the Holy Spirit speaking to us.

In the verse above, think about the pronoun “you.” That means not just Paul, to whom Christ was speaking, but you and me to whom Christ is speaking now, for His grace is sufficient, right now, at this very moment. No matter what the trial you and I may be facing, if we know Christ, His grace, i.e., His awesome unmerited favor and love, rests on us.

Perhaps you are facing a trial that is the greatest you have ever faced. Perhaps you are feeling that although you’ve passed through many trials before, this trial is too much for you. This trial is too great for you to endure. It will be the death of you. However, the Lord would have us to remember that although this trial may be too great for you, it is not too great for Him. His grace is sufficient for your present trial, for no trial can overcome Him. It never has, in the history of mankind, and it never will.

So, do you really think your trial is different? Do you think that although God’s grace has been sufficient for everyone else, it won’t be sufficient for you?! Such thoughts never have their origin in the Lover of your soul. They come from the enemy of your soul. And just as Jesus had the power to overcome the tests and temptations of the devil in His own life, He has the power to enable you to endure and triumph over the tests and trials in your life and mine. Surely the words of the old hymn ring true which say “All sufficient grace for even me!”

Trust the Savior. If you are one of His children, He will never leave you nor forsake you. Surely, “The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:8).
