Finished!

John 19:30 “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ‘It is finished,’ and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

Jesus’ last words before He died on the cross are recorded in John 19 above: “It is finished.”  But what did He mean by this? What was finished?  The answer?  All that He came to earth to do.  It meant that His sacrifice as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world, was now finished.  His death finished all that was necessary for this to occur. That means your sin and my sin.  What was necessary for forgiveness and the gift of eternal life to be provided for all those who would believe in Him was finished.  There’s nothing more that is necessary. In fact, anything else added to this is futile.

So, do you think you need to do something to be forgiven of your sin; some good work you need to do, some gift you need to give, or some change you need to make?  Even if you were to give your own life in your efforts, it wouldn’t add anything to what Jesus had already done.  It is finished.  You don’t need to wait for something else.  There isn’t some other person who has the answers. There’s nothing more that anyone must do. It’s done!  It’s finished! Praise the Lord!

So, what are you waiting for?  What else do you think is necessary before you turn to Him and believe? What new leaf needs to be turned? What do you need to do?  The answer is and always will be “Nothing.”  It’s all been done.  It’s finished.  There is now a way for us to be saved. There is hope for us. And it’s all because of the work Jesus and Jesus alone finished for us.

What more are you holding out for? What are your arguments against believing in Him to be saved? Maybe it’s time to be finished with whatever is holding you back, because whatever it is, whatever you are waiting for, it is a futile wait, for everything that is necessary has already been done for you.  The way is clear for you. All that is necessary has been fully and completely satisfied by Jesus on the cross.  Perhaps this is the moment for you to be finished with sin, with arguments, with unbelief, and turn to the One who finished all that was ever necessary for you to have the abundant and eternal life that God has made possible for you.  All has been finished for you so that you can begin life anew, forgiven, filled with hope, joy, and peace. What else are you waiting for?  All has been finished – for you.
