Matthew 13:11 “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.”
God has many secrets. In the first place, He knows everything there is to know and we don’t. He is aware of an infinite amount of information of which we have no knowledge. The Bible says His ways are higher than our ways as the Heavens are above the earth, as are His thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Some of these secrets have been revealed through the efforts of those who have studied the wonders of the universe. God has allowed them to know such things as the structure of DNA, the workings of the atom, and the source of and remedy for many diseases. Yet, there are other things that He knows that we’ll never understand on this side of heaven. The Trinity is like that, as is predestination, and other great spiritual Truths that people argue about in their ignorance.
Then there are secrets that God has revealed in His Word but of which people are ignorant either because they’ve never read the Bible, or if they have, they don’t and won’t believe it, It’s those types of secrets about which Jesus was speaking in the words recorded in Matthew 13 above.
In the incident recorded in this passage, Jesus told the crowds a parable about a farmer who sowed seed on various types of soil. The parables, rather than explaining difficult things with simple metaphors, were actually meant to hide spiritual truth from most people who heard them as a judgment on their unbelief (Matthew 13:13-15). It was only when Jesus’ disciples got alone with Him that He explained the parables to them (Mark 4:10). These same secrets are provided to anyone who believes and then goes to Christ asking for understanding of His Word. God send the gift of His Holy Spirit to believers to guide them into His Truth (John 16:13). He opens the eyes of believers to the wonderful truths of His Word that will day by day thrill the heart of those who love Him.
So do you want to know God’s secrets? Do you want to know wonderful things that will bless your life today and give you understanding of eternal things – things that believers can look forward to with incredible hope and anticipation as their time on this earth grows longer and their time to enter eternity grows shorter? God longs to share these things with you. He longs to tell you His secrets. But He can only do this if the one to whom He speaks has ears to hear what He has said (Matthew 11:15).
